As we know, propaganda often has a negative connotation because it is a biased way of sharing information. Propaganda is often one sided, pushing certain facts or images and intentionally omitting other information.
I saw this clip posted on facebook. I’d say this is a great example of propaganda (as many documentaries tend to be). I haven’t seen the actual movie so I’m just focusing on this clip. I am not saying I disagree with the message, but it is clear that the editor and the filmmaker are trying to manipulate the audience’s view of what’s happening. The clips that they show and the music they play are intended to strongly influence the viewer; from the sad classical music when describing the media’s unfair dictation of how women should be to the more modern and upbeat metric song when Rosario Dawson is discussing the future of women leaders. In the clips where the voice over is talking about what it is to be a man (being in control), several of those movies the woman is fighting back – it just doesn’t show that part of the movie. Again, I do agree with many of the things being said here – however its just showing further how propaganda shows one end of the spectrum and caters the images to its advantage.
